Groups of 4 or more would gather on a makeshift dancefloor - most often without music - just snapping fingers, patting their hips, along with the sounds of their feet shuffling and stomping would eventually become the origins of square and line dancing. Yes, Blacks were the first.
Blacks were the original "cowboy" - because at one time you could never call a White man a "boy". While herding cattle, and other bovine animals, Black men made the best of their time during slavery by becoming acrobats while dancing on top of horses, while riding the trails.
Today, everything from the Electric Slide to the Greeks on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, line dancing and trial riding music has impacted the world. It's not a party these days without the The Wobble, the Monkey Feet or Boots on the Ground just to name a few. How many do you know?
